A bag of concrete mix with a post sticking out that has a pair of HandyShorts blowing in the wind

How to set a post in concrete in a bucket

Have you ever tried Quikrete’s fast setting concrete mix?

Are the instructions on the concrete bag right? You just dump the bag in the hole and pour a gallon of water on top to set a post in concrete? No shaking, no stirring? Build to Made performs an extremely helpful experiment to show us just how little effort it really takes to stick a post in the ground and have it stay up forever! They cut a window into a 5-gallon bucket so that we could watch as the concrete mix becomes fully saturated over roughly 20 minutes.

What you need to set a post in concrete in a bucket

  1. A 50lb bag of fast-setting concrete mix (you should pick this up from your local big box store for much cheaper)
  2. A bucket, container or hole in the ground
  3. 1 gallon of water
  4. A post

Optional items

  1. A tough pair of work gloves
  2. A 5 gallon decorative planter
  3. A snap-off utility knife

Set posts in concrete with these steps

  1. Grab a utility knife
  2. Cut open the bag of concrete
  3. Pour the entire bag of concrete mix into the bucket
  4. Pour 1 gallon of water on top of the concrete mix
  5. Let it sit for about 4 hours, though it’ll set after 20 to 40 minutes
  6. Continue on with your day
